Having previously worked in MAC Cosmetics I had a lot of customers come in looking for the right foundation for their skin.
Most of the customers I had didn’t know the difference between any of our foundations or have been using the wrong one for their skin type.
So I said I’d break it down for you guys here!
Studio Fix Fluid Foundation- Oily to Combination skin
This foundation is for oily to combination skin types. This is an oil free and matte foundation which means it does not clog any pores and mattifies any oiliness on the skin.
It is quite a heavy foundation on the skin so if you love coverage then I would definitely recommend this!
Pro Longwear Fluid Foundation- Dry to Combination skin
This foundation is for dry to combination skin.
It says it gives you a medium coverage although I think it is a bit heavy on the skin.
It sets on the skin very fast so once you apply you need to buffer it in pretty fast!
It is not a buildable coverage foundation so once you have a layer on I’m sorry ladies but you won’t be able to add on to it, unless you want to drag the foundation as you apply more!
Rather than it leaving a matte finish like the studio fix, it leaves a more satin texture to the skin.
It also lasts up to 15 hours! So it won’t slide off the skin, make you look patchy or caked!
Studio Sculpt Foundation- Dry Skin
This foundation is for dry skin. It is a gel based foundation, giving you a medium buildable coverage and leaves a beautiful satin finish!
It is also one of MAC’s best sellers and is very popular for more mature skin.
It also gives you a gorgeous dewy look on the skin and is hydrating which is a dream come true if you have dry skin!
Matchmaster Foundation- Normal to Oily Skin
This foundation is for normal to oily skin, it blends well and keeps the skin fresh and hydrated during the day.
The matchmaster range uses a shade intelligence technology to match areas of uneven skin tone i.e. forehead and chin without looking ashy.
It doesn’t come in the usual NC or NW shades like the rest of the MAC products it starts from 1.0 and goes up to 9.0.
If you are unsure of your shade ask any MAC consultant to give you a colour match and you’ll find the perfect match for you!
Face and Body Foundation- Normal Skin
This foundation is a light to medium coverage and is buildable.
You can apply this foundation directly on to the skin, but if you want to build it up pour some on your hand and rub it in circular motions until it has a tacky feel to it then apply it on.
It also doesn’t contain an SPF which means there’s no flashback in photos!
(This means, when there is a spf in a foundation and a photo is taken with a flash your face will seem whiter than it actually is! But with a foundation with no spf you don’t have that problem at all!)
Moisture Mineralizing Foundation- Dry Skin
This foundation is for dehydrated and sensitive skin.
This foundation range is blended with 77 minerals, plus vitamin E and shea butter which creates a dewy effect on dry and sensitive skin and also helps to even out skin tone.
It has a light but buildable coverage and is lovely and lightweight on the skin.
This range comes in a fluid, compact or loose powder whichever your preference!
Pro Longwear Compact Foundation- Oily skin
This foundation is easy to blend and sets to a soft matte finish best for oily to combination skin.
It is a cream to powder foundation and leaves a beautifully natural finish!
It has a light to medium coverage and is packaged in a compact with a mirror and sponge so you can put it in your handbag to top up during the day!
You can apply this with the sponge given, your fingers or with a brush!
Studio Fix Powder All skin types
This foundation is for all skin types and is one of our most popular!
It is ideally a foundation but a lot of girls seem to use it over their own foundations which I would not recommend as it will make your complexion very cakey!
It has a silky, talc-based texture that applies and blends great leaving you with a matte finish.
The compact also comes with a sponge and a mirror.
The powder is also triple milled so allows the skin to breathe.
It is a light to medium coverage and can be applied dry or wet, although if applied wet you do have the risk of it coming out streaky.
So there you go! An overview on all the MAC foundations! Hope that helped anyone confused on which type to buy for their skin. Make sure you get a colour match at your nearest counter off any MAC consultants as you don’t want to be wearing the right foundation but wrong shade!!
You can buy any of these products at any MAC counter or in any Brown Thomas Ireland stores.
