MAC Foundations- The Difference

Having previously worked in MAC Cosmetics I had a lot of customers come in looking for the right foundation for their skin.
Most of the customers I had didn’t know the difference between any of our foundations or have been using the wrong one for their skin type.
So I said I’d break it down for you guys here!

Studio Fix Fluid Foundation- Oily to Combination skin

This foundation is for oily to combination skin types. This is an oil free and matte foundation which means it does not clog any pores and mattifies any oiliness on the skin.
It is quite a heavy foundation on the skin so if you love coverage then I would definitely recommend this!
SPF 15

Pro Longwear Fluid Foundation- Dry to Combination skin

This foundation is for dry to combination skin.
It says it gives you a medium coverage although I think it is a bit heavy on the skin.
It sets on the skin very fast so once you apply you need to buffer it in pretty fast!
It is not a buildable coverage foundation so once you have a layer on I’m sorry ladies but you won’t be able to add on to it, unless you want to drag the foundation as you apply more!
Rather than it leaving a matte finish like the studio fix, it leaves a more satin texture to the skin.
It also lasts up to 15 hours! So it won’t slide off the skin, make you look patchy or caked!
SPF 10

Studio Sculpt Foundation- Dry Skin

This foundation is for dry skin. It is a gel based foundation, giving you a medium buildable coverage and leaves a beautiful satin finish!
It is also one of MAC’s best sellers and is very popular for more mature skin.
It also gives you a gorgeous dewy look on the skin and is hydrating which is a dream come true if you have dry skin!
SPF 15

Matchmaster Foundation- Normal to Oily Skin

This foundation is for normal to oily skin, it blends well and keeps the skin fresh and hydrated during the day.
The matchmaster range uses a shade intelligence technology to match areas of uneven skin tone i.e. forehead and chin without looking ashy.
It doesn’t come in the usual NC or NW shades like the rest of the MAC products it starts from 1.0 and goes up to 9.0.
If you are unsure of your shade ask any MAC consultant to give you a colour match and you’ll find the perfect match for you!
SPF 15

Face and Body Foundation- Normal Skin

This foundation is a light to medium coverage and is buildable.
You can apply this foundation directly on to the skin, but if you want to build it up pour some on your hand and rub it in circular motions until it has a tacky feel to it then apply it on.
It also doesn’t contain an SPF which means there’s no flashback in photos!
(This means, when there is a spf in a foundation and a photo is taken with a flash your face will seem whiter than it actually is! But with a foundation with no spf you don’t have that problem at all!)

Moisture Mineralizing Foundation- Dry Skin

This foundation is for dehydrated and sensitive skin.
This foundation range is blended with 77 minerals, plus vitamin E and shea butter which creates a dewy effect on dry and sensitive skin and also helps to even out skin tone.
It has a light but buildable coverage and is lovely and lightweight on the skin.
This range comes in a fluid, compact or loose powder whichever your preference!

SPF 15

Pro Longwear Compact Foundation- Oily skin

This foundation is easy to blend and sets to a soft matte finish best for oily to combination skin.
It is a cream to powder foundation and leaves a beautifully natural finish!
It has a light to medium coverage and is packaged in a compact with a mirror and sponge so you can put it in your handbag to top up during the day!
You can apply this with the sponge given, your fingers or with a brush!

SPF 20

Studio Fix Powder All skin types

This foundation is for all skin types and is one of our most popular!
It is ideally a foundation but a lot of girls seem to use it over their own foundations which I would not recommend as it will make your complexion very cakey!
It has a silky, talc-based texture that applies and blends great leaving you with a matte finish.
The compact also comes with a sponge and a mirror.
The powder is also triple milled so allows the skin to breathe.
It is a light to medium coverage and can be applied dry or wet, although if applied wet you do have the risk of it coming out streaky.

studio fix powder

So there you go! An overview on all the MAC foundations! Hope that helped anyone confused on which type to buy for their skin. Make sure you get a colour match at your nearest counter off any MAC consultants as you don’t want to be wearing the right foundation but wrong shade!!

You can buy any of these products at any MAC counter or in any Brown Thomas Ireland stores.

Get the Crystal Reed look!

Hey guys! I am a huge fan of MTV’s show Teen Wolf, and absolutely love Crystal Reed, a.k.a Alison.
Her makeup on the show is always natural and flawless!

Although outside the show Crystal seems to steer away from the natural look slightly and loves a strong lip! Still rocking a subtle natural eye though.

I couldn’t decide which look to give a tutorial on, as all her makeup looks are stunning! But I decided on this flawless makeup, a subtle smokey eye teamed with a pale pink lip. Gorgeous and very achievable look!

1. First of all apply your foundation, as usual and lightly contour your cheekbones and jawline. – to make your bone structure really stand out.
No blusher is used on Crystal, but if you want to add a bit of colour to your cheeks use a coral blusher such as adjustable colour blush- fancy coral 02.
Do not forget to set your foundation and contouring with a translucent powder, dusted lightly over your ‘T’ zone.

2. Use a brown matte eyeshadow in your eyebrows using an angle brush to shape them.

3. Put a light brown base colour on your lid such as, Cork from MAC.

4. Using your blending brush use any black eyeshadow and blend the black in to the crease of your eye, blending it down on to the lid as well. Carbon from MAC is a good black!

Bring the black down underneath your bottom lash line on the outer corner of your eye with a pencil brush.

5. Using a clean pencil brush, get a highlighting colour eyeshadow, such as ‘bootycall’ from the Naked 2 palette. Put it in the inner corner of your eye.

6. Using an angle brush get your black eyeshadow again and place it on your top lash line to give the effect that you are wearing liner and have fuller lashes.
Then apply your mascara.

7. Finally apply your lipstick and you have completed the look!

You can use whichever pink lipstick you have or prefer. Crystal is wearing a colour similar to NYX ‘harmonica’ 504 which you can get in most chemists.
You can put a nude colour on your lips first like, MAC shy girl and then put harmonica over it to give it a more pinky shimmery touch.

I hope I’ve helped guys! Keep reading and if there is any tutorials you’d like me to do comment below!

Marilyn Monroe Make Up Tutorial

Hey everyone, so I recently did a photo shoot and did a Marilyn Monroe make up look on my model. I personally think a red lip and black liner will never go out of fashion so I will give you a step by step tutorial on how to create the famous look!

1. Put your foundation on and lightly contour your cheekbones using any matte bronzer.

2. Colour in your eyebrows using any matte eye shadow, suiting your hair colour, elongating them in a downward direction (if you want the full Marilyn Monroe look!)

3.Get a white kohl eyeliner and colour in your eyelids, don’t worry if it’s all messy and jagged! I use MAC Fascinating white kohl eyeliner.

4. Buff the eyeliner on lids with a pencil brush, and pat on white eyeshadow on top of it to make it really white!

5. Get a matte brown eyeshadow and blend on top of white eyeshadow on your eyebrow bone over your eye socket, using a blending brush. (I use a MAC 217 blending brush and MAC Handwritten brown eyeshadow) Blend the brown forward and back until soft and blended properly.

6. Using a small liner brush put a line of black gel eyeliner over lash line of your lid and slightly flick it outwards and coat your eyelashes with mascara and put white eyeliner in your waterline.

7. Using a small liner brush again, put a small dot on your cheek using brown eyeshadow.

8. Get your angle brush and put a flick of matte brown eye shadow underneath your bottom lashes at the corner of each eye to give the effect of a shadow from your lashes. Monroe was famous for this technique!

9.Finally get your lipstick and put it on your lips. Don’t go for a dark red as Monroe didn’t have vibrant red lips, it was more of a deep red.
MAC do a Marilyn Monroe collection and they have a red lipstick exactly the same colour as hers.

If you want to make the look more dramatic you could add a few individual eyelashes as well! Thanks for reading guys 🙂 This is the picture of the look I did on my model!

Demi Lovato Music Cover- Tutorial

Hey everyone, A few weeks ago in class we did a music video cover makeup look.
I choose to do Demi Lovato’s music cover ‘Heart Attack’, a song which I personally LOVE!
I love Demi Lovato and her music cover was very different, it really stands out, and just looks so alternative and cool!

This is the look I tried to recreate.

These are the steps I used to create this look:

1.I put on my foundation using MAC studio fix NC15 and contoured her cheeks with my Bobbi Brown matte bronzer.

2. I then got my MAC smoulder kohl pencil and coloured in my model’s whole eye lid, it may be all jagged and not even but this is ok!

3.I got my MAC 217 blending brush and blended in all the black on her eyelid.

4.I then put mascara on her eyelashes to finish off her eyes and put MAC carbon eyeshadow through her eyebrows to make them darker, as the music cover photo is all very dark features.

5. I got my MAC smoulder eye pencil again and coloured in her lips with it, again because the photo has all dark features and black lips.

6. I then got silver Supra colour paint and patted it lightly on the centre of her lips, to give the shine effect.

7. I then got the silver and black Supra colour paint and mixed them together and ran my fingers on her forehead up towards her hair line and put it all down her hands.

8. I finally got black gel eyeliner, any will do, I used the LA Creative liner and drew on her tattoo’s on her arm as the finishing

And that is how I created the Heart Attack look 🙂

I hope that helped guys. Please comment below if you have any requests for any other looks you’d like me to do. Thanks everyone!

MAC Soft and Gentle review

Hi guys, so today I have decided to write a review on MAC soft and gentle mineralize skin finish powder. Image

I recently bought it because we were using it so much in college that I just HAD to get it!
It is definitely a must have in my make up kit!  Using a little goes a long way remember that! I dust my brush over it before applying some to my face and it is plenty! You really will have this for years! There is so much in the product and you only need to use a little! So splurge out on that €28 because it will last you a long time!

I personally love any sort of shimmer makeup products! Shimmer blushes, eyeshadows you name it I have it! So when I got soft and gentle I instantly fell in love! It leaves a gorgeous shimmery shine to your face but nothing too heavy or strong so it only catches the shine in the light leaving you looking glowing and gorgeous! You can apply it above the cheekbones , down ridge of your nose, and on your cupids bow on your lip to make it really stand out.Image

That is my personal thoughts on the product! If anyone has any questions please comment below! Thanks everyone 🙂
